Career
If not anything, most of the youngsters in India are blessed with more than one turning point in his/her life that many of them end up in a loop after turning too much, one after another.
Right after finishing the Tenth Board exams, we again take another turn during the Plus Two board exams. Some get a brief rest after that but prayers for those students who pursue Engineering or Medicine, it's the Wayanad pass for them ahead; from the entrance exams forward, every semester is a turning point.
After an average of 15-18 years of toil in education, a graduate finally thinks the struggle is over for them. And a distant voice shouts 'Hold them horses, the fun ain't started yet, kid'. Their first interview, the first job, the second one, and the promotion, etc are all turning points.
The person stands confused because the hero in the movies had so much time to woo the heroine, party with friends, and dance in the streets at least twice. And meanwhile, it is hard for them to even find the bed each night.
Then marriage occurs. Then it's the new home, the kids, the bills and life will move on and the portrait they drew lies in some corner of a storeroom, unnoticed.
So what is Career? This is actually a tough question because sadly there is a difference between career and dreams now. Life on earth is weird for humans as I have stated earlier in another article as we are the only species that pay bills since we have desires, unlike other animals.
Every human is forced to pay the bills at the basic level. To do that, we rely on jobs. In earlier times, when people came across a writer, they inquired about their works as an author. But now, in the same situation, they raise the question as to what they do for a living other than the hobby.
Anything that pays your bills is not a career. Career is something you build gradually, and it doesn't happen overnight. If you look deep inside, you can find that there is something else in your heart other than the government jobs or the call center jobs, which you desire more in your life.
I am not implicating that people who work in offices, or in front of a desktop are not living their life. Believe me, they are also having the time of their life. Not everyone is born with talents and I believe it is no less to think of yourself if you cannot perform in arts or sports. Without any of that too, you are still a human.
There has been a change of lifestyle that it is hard to keep up with the pace of life when you are trying to chase your dreams. Sometimes, even after trying too hard, you may not win it. Try again if you can and if you don't too, it is still okay.
Since we have grown up hearing only the stories of achievers and not about the ones that lost the hunt, never think less of you when you stop trying. It may succeed if you keep on trying hard, but it is understandable when you have priorities like family at your back.
The run for money doesn't end after finding a job. It will go on until you can find someone else to put the burden upon, namely the descendants. You will have to work until you can and career is something that helps you in that long process and believe me, your career is not a turning point rather it's a straight line.
There is no particular time or age for anything, let aside your career. You don't stop dreaming after 40 and thus it is safe to say that pursuing dreams after 40 is never a bad option. Go after your passion anytime you want, because it's never too late to do so.
Pursuing the path of your passion may not give you that six-figure salary at the start, but in time, you may reach success but at a slow pace. It is okay if it takes years for that to happen, or if your peers make earnings and you are still struggling because dreams are different for each.
What if you don't have a car, or a house, or a huge bank balance? As long as you have means to food and shelter, you are covered, my friend. Rest is all luxuries that we won't enjoy or take with us after death. But think of that little appreciation you will get for doing something that you love. Now that's an achievement.
In conclusion, your career is also like marriage and you have to live with it afterward, until the end. So, what if that profession you pay your bills with is something that you love waking up to do on a Monday morning? Isn't that the best feeling for a career?
Career is something that defines your character, more importantly, it is something that caters your life. Make it interesting and if you fail in that, at least you won't have any regrets.
Life always finds a way, just set it in the right direction. Be Kind and Judge less. Lose Hatred. Spread Love.
